Right at the center of Hawaii's east coast is the "town" of Hilo, the second largest city in the State. Most major "Big Island" businesses and government offices are headquartered in Hilo. Ongoing renovation and preservation of its many older buildings is helping to retain this city's historic past and old Hawaii feel.

Quaint, colorful shops, offer much diversity in shopping and business opportunities.
With over 70 inches of rain throughout the year, the nation's wettest city is always lush and green. The soil is conducive to the growth of a variety of agricultural products, gardens and floriculture. The diversified economy includes aquaculture, agriculture, ranching, trade, tourism, education and government. The University of Hawaii at Hilo is a fully accredited comprehensive liberal arts university.

A deep-water harbor and modern airport are among the primary features of the community, which is the hub of transportation for the island.
Housing in the Hilo area is moderately priced, for either purchase or rental properties. The median price of a single family home in 2007 was $430,000.

Host to The International Festival of the Pacific, The Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, open air farmers markets and a variety of fairs throughout the year, Hilo offers a rich cultural experience for residents and tourists alike.
